Ethan eating a cheerio

So I realize that someday eating a cheerio will be no big deal, but for now it is the most amazing thing ever and here it is on tape for you to see. (Don't get too excited)
This is the basic process we go through whenver Ethan eats, but he is getting past the choking part now and is doing a very good job with eating. Today we bought some banana puffs but he thinks he likes the cheerios better.

Life at the Johnson's

I have never been one to journal or keep a diary, so keeping up with this blog is proving to be more difficult than I anticipated. Anyway alot has happened in the last few weeks. Ethan is now rolling across the floor and making me miss the days I could set him somewhere and he would be there when I return. He loves to eat cheerios and is fun to watch as he rolls them around in his mouth. He is getting quite good at eating them and they are proving to be a good way to occupy him during church. He now thinks it is so funny to have a wipe rubbed on his leg and thinks that I am trying to tickle him everytime we change his diaper. He loves to touch Max and laughs everytime he gets a handful of his beard, feathers, or whatever part of him passes by his hand. We have been swimming a couple of times before it cooled down, and he likes to be in the water but is not too fond of being dunked under. (can you blame him?)

Matthew's first father's day was fun even though most of it was spent working. I love to watch Matthew with Ethan. He has been such a wonderful father from day one, and it is so fun because he is very good with Ethan. I don't think I could have done better when picking someone to marry.

Yesterday Ethan's two front teeth started to pop thru and he is showing me today that it is not very fun. (brings to mind the days of colic!) It will be so cute to see his little teeth when he smiles, but it is amazing how quickly they grow-up. I have to say I can not believe how much love you can have for such a little person. Tell me what other human being you know that could scream for hours, pee-pee all over your walls, sneeze babyfood in your face, pinch the skin on your arm till it brings tears to your eyes, wake you up at all hours of the night, and yet you still can't wait to go and look over the crib in the morning just to see his smiling face and pick him up to kiss all over him. (so I'm a little taken with my sweet son.) Anyway, just a little catch-up on life in our house.

Did you see me mom, I rolled over!

Could it BE any hotter out here?

Who's idea was this?

Happy Father's Day!!!

Give me another Cheerio and nobody gets hurt.

P.S. Ethan is about to have a new girlfriend, as our friends Jon and Rebekah are going to be induced on Friday morning. Can't wait to meet Macey Jane, but will someone else please have a boy sometime soon!!!)

First attempt

Well I have been "spying" on several of my friends lives for some time now and thought that it was only fair to give it a try myself so they have the opportunity to take a look at what we are up to as well. As you will see, I am not a very computer savy individual, but hope that I will be able to learn as time allows ( i.e. Ethan is sleeping). For now I thought the best thing to do was try to give a little update of what we have been up to for the last 5 1/2 months. Ethan was born 4 weeks and 4 days early which was a big shock for us. Matthew and I are the biggest planners you have ever met so we had a little bit of adjusting to do. Ethan stayed in the NICU for 15 days and came home on day 16. He was very strong from the start and rolled over the first day I had him home and put him down for some tummy time. At about week 6 he got very colicky and would cry from 5-9 every night like clockwork. At week 12 we started Prevacid which helped but did not take the crying away. If he was awake, he was crying (luckily he slept alot). Week 16 it was like a switch turned off and the colic was gone. Today he is 23 weeks old and is still a fussy baby but he smiles and laughs all the time and is so much fun to have around (about 95% of the time). When he has one of his crying spells I don't know how we made it through the first few months and pray it doesn't return! I think that is a quick overview of the last 5 1/2 months. Now on to the present.

Today Ethan rolled over from his back to his tummy for the first time! I found him in his crib sucking on the sheet this morning and was sad that I missed him actually doing it. I have been hovering with the video camera waiting for this day for about a week. Oh well maybe I can get it on film soon. For now I will try to figure out how to post some pictures of him from when he was born to the present
