Happy Birthday Ethan

My sweet Ethan it's hard to believe it's been a whole year since you were born! Daddy and I joked then about how you were already trying to take control of our lives by coming almost 5 weeks early, but we didn't fully realize how true that would be. After what seemed like forever, your 15 days in the NICU finally ended and our twice daily trips down to visit you were over. With all of the pictures we took of you (close to 1000 in the hospital alone)we use to joke that you were our mail order baby and we were waiting for the stork to drop you off.(when given the choice to laugh or cry about a situation we try to laugh, just take our wedding reception for instance... remind me to tell you about it sometime) We were so happy to have you home healthy and happy with us and I use to go in and watch you sleeping just because I could. I was amazed at how much work you were! It's amazing the difference having a nurse care for you round the clock and doing it on my own makes. We quickly got into our own routine and were doing well. You have always been a good sleeper, and when I read "Babywise" and followed it to the T you did so great it was like I had the best baby ever born. Then 6 weeks rolled around, and my sweet peaceful sleeping newborn turned into a screaming inconsolable monster. Every night we held you as you cried from 4:30-9:30pm. Having hardwood floors in your nursery made for some ear ringing times, and none of the crazy stuff we read about worked(believe me we tried it all and then some). A Sabbath morning trip to the Pediatrician one weekend when daddy was gone and I couldn't take anymore on my own, and a drive to Bowling Green just to have some quite time, are but a few of my fondest memories of that time. Finally 16 weeks rolled around and it was like someone turned off a switch. Don't get me wrong you were still a fussy baby but no more 5-9 crying spells (YEAH!!) Since that time it has only gotten better with each passing day. Other moms told me once you started walking you would be a lot happier and it's true. Ever since Thanksgiving you have been up and exploring on your own, and it's fun for me to watch you discover the world around you! You are a very strong willed little boy as I think you always have been and will be. When you get frustrated at me for taking you away from whatever it is your playing with you try to chew on my shoulder to let me know you want to stop, your way of communicating for now. You have been saying dada for quite sometime and now say mama when you first wake up in the morning. I think I hear Max whenever he comes in the room, but who knows. I feel pretty sure you are going to be a talker from all of the babbling you do now and I'm excited to hear your voice. You seem to want to share everything of yours with Max. You would think that he would regard you as his best friend for all the food and toys you give him, but he is at best indifferent to you right now. Everyday it seems you are changing and doing something new. When I look back over your pictures from the year I am amazed at how you have changed from a tiny little newborn to a chunky infant and now you seem so grown up already and your just a toddler. Ethan I love you with all my heart and there isn't another baby in the whole world I would rather call my own. You are such a joy to wake up to every morning and I have so enjoyed staying home with you and being there for your every first. I can't wait to see what God has in store for us this coming year and can only imagine the ride He will take us on. I love you today, tomorrow and forever. You truly are My Wish Come True. Happy Birthday little man.
Love, Mommy

Since Ethan coming into the world actually started one year ago today I felt it appropiate to take a look back at what this year has held and celebrate his birthday tomorrow. What a thrill filled year it has been and it seems to be more fun with every passing day. Here are two slide shows the 1st is December 2007 - August and the 2nd is September - December 2008. Enjoy!

Today is Grandpa's 60th!

Happy Birthday Grandpa!
Today is my dad's 60th Birthday!! Unfortunately he had to work today so we celebrated Friday night. It is hard to beleive that just 59 short years ago he was about the same age as Ethan is now. Hard to beleive but time really does fly. We are so happy to wish him a happy birthday and are looking forward to many more! We love you dad/grandpa you are the best we could ask for.

I'll Help you grandpa!
You got the coolest gifts!

Happy birthday I love you!
So this year I had the great idea to do a photo Christmas card and thought costumes would be fun... next year I will know. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get 2 adults 1 baby and 1 dog to all be looking at the camera and smiling with no red eye? Well I can tell you it is harder than you might think. So after many many attempts we finally settled on the photo that will be arriving in your mailboxes this week. Pretty good but Max has a wild eye that no amount of photo shop would fix and it seems to be the best picture we could get of everyone else. Here are a few of the runners up, I left out the very best ones for fear of someone calling child services or the animal cruilty hotline. Maybe next year we will go with the picture of Ethan with Santa.

No more smiles from Ethan
(or Max)
"Just because I look like Santa
doesn't mean I'm holly or jolly
to little boys."

This is the winner:
Maybe Santa didn't need Rudolph's
red nose with this glowing eye.

My snowman hat from grandma.
My first picture for mommy.
Last but not least it may seem a little like the Hallmark commercial with the recording card but I swear he says HO HO HO, or something close whenever we show him Santa. You be the judge...

Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight!

Eleven Months Old Already!

So I thought in the spirit of Christmas I would give you a little 11 month update on Ethan in the form of a familiar song. (The 12 Days of Christmas if you can't figure it out. Silly I know, but hum the tune in your head and let yourself get in the Christmas spirit just a little.)
The 12 Update Facts of Ethan:
12. Hours a night sleeping
11. Be nice to Max reminders (per hour)
10. Da Da Da Da's (O ma ma ma ma's mind you)
9. Steps by himself he's taking
8. Digital pictures mommy's snapping
7. Temper Tantrums
6. Central and Lateral Incisors (teeth)
5. Diaper Changes
4. Snacks a day of Gold Fish
3. Feed myself meals
2. Daily Naps (for 2 hours each yipeee!)
1. Happy Toddler Most of the time

Anyway that pretty much sums up what Ethan is doing now except that today he started signing "More" and "All Done" while he was eating. Hopefully we can keep this up and maybe lessen the out bursts he has when he wants something. (Hey a mom can hope right?)
It has been 11 months since Ethan was born and I continue to be amazed by all of the things he is doing. He is such a little ball of energy and we have so much fun with him. In the last month I think the new thing that Ethan has taught me, is to have patience with the mom at the groccery store with the full cart of grocceries and a child screeching at the top of his lungs because sometimes its ME!

I love this little guy more than I can say, and thank God for him every day!

Come on mom this is NOT a real Turkey
I'll ripe your stuffing out you silly bird!!
I love setting up the Christmas Tree!
My Very Own 1st Christmas Ornament
Ethan being dedicated to Jesus
As you can see Ethan is a little more steady now, but he still
doesn't want to walk unless someone is there to catch him.
